As the day approaches, everything is taking and improving its shape. For five weeks now, WineHQ has been releasing Release Candidates for the next major update of its Windows app emulation software on other platforms. TO the fifth, it happened yesterday WINE 6.0-rc6 And, like the previous five, we cannot say that it includes very exciting news.
And it is that, since this phase of development has been reached, leaving behind the version released every fortnight, WineHQ launches one version a week, but just to correct minor bugs. That is so because they have reached the freezing of functions, and they say so in the release note. "Bug fix only, we are in code freeze«. Even so, they do provide us with a list with all the changes introduced, very few, but easier to count.
WINE 6.0-rc6 introduces 10 fixes and 29 changes
When the development cycle is the biweekly, WineHQ introduces hundreds of changes, sometimes close to or over 400, but now it is not even remotely close to that. Total, have made 10 fixes and 29 changes, which is ten times less than at other times, but due to the freezing of the code and functions.
Interested users can now install WINE 6.0-rc6 from its source code, available in eth y this other link, or from binaries that can be downloaded from here!. In the link from where we can download the binaries there is also information to add the official project repository to receive this and other future updates as soon as they are ready for systems like Ubuntu / Debian or Fedora, but there are also versions for Android and macOS .
If nothing happens, the next version will be WINE 6.0-rc7 and will arrive the January 15 of the year that we just released.
