WINE 6.0-rc5 continues with small adjustments of the next big release of emulation software

WINE 6.0-rc5

They are a bit more boring, but they are also news. And no, WineHQ was not delayed with this release. As always, occurred Friday, but we caught it a little later because, well, like everyone else, we are a little more clueless about Christmas. And what arrived less than 48 hours ago was WINE 6.0-rc5, a new step towards the stable version that, as the fourth RC and the previous three, arrives without really outstanding changes.

This is because, by the time the Release Candidates start to release, the software has entered the feature freeze, which means that they will no longer introduce new changes and all they will do until the final version is fix bugs to what they had already implemented. For that reason, the only outstanding thing they mention is «bug fix, we're on feature freeze«.

WINE 6.0 will arrive in January

In the development phase where they release a new "staging" version every two weeks, changes are counted in the hundreds. In WINE 6.0-rc5 they have introduced 21 bug fixes and 24 changes. They're basically outlining everything, and personally I think it's good news that they haven't fixed much because it can also mean that there isn't much to fix.

Interested users can now install WINE 6.0-rc5 from its source code, available in eth y this other link, or from binaries that can be downloaded from here. In the link from where we can download the binaries there is also information to add the official project repository to receive this and other future updates as soon as they are ready for systems like Ubuntu / Debian or Fedora, but there are also versions for Android and macOS .

If nothing happens, the next version will be WINE 6.0-rc6 and will arrive the January 8 of the year that we just released.
