EndeavorOS Gemini arrives with Plasma 6 and Qt6, but without ARM image

EndeavourOS Gemini

This afternoon, the most important news in the Linux world has been, without a doubt, the launch of Fedora 40. There are few operating systems that are so popular and from which so many projects draw, and then there are smaller distributions whose reason for being is that there is an option for each type of user. One of them too has had a launch this afternoon, more specifically a new ISO called EndeavourOS Gemini.

There are people who claim that what was formerly known as AntergOS is the best example of what Arch Linux would be if it had a graphical installer. I, who sometimes think the same thing, other times I doubt it a little. The reason is partly news like this EndeavourOS: its new features include Plasma 6 and Qt6, when KDE launched the new version of the desktop almost two months ago. What I am referring to is that to be Arch Linux with an installer, the updates should also arrive sooner. But each one with their philosophy. What follows is the list with the most outstanding news of this new ISO.

Highlights of EndeavorOS Gemini

  • Linux 6.8.7.arch1-1.
  • Plasma 6 and Qt6. Plasma 6 is in both the live and installation environment offline. The live environment runs on X11 for security, to ensure support for all types of hardware. After installation, Wayland becomes the default graphics protocol, with X11 being offered as an option.
  • Nvidia-dkms packages have given way to Nvidia packages. The first ones were causing problems.
  • The ARM option is no longer available. The problem is that it was being maintained by a single developer who can no longer handle development.
  • The EFI partition is created successfully when you choose the “replace partition” option.
  • GParted is back in live mode and coexists with the KDE partition manager.
  • The welcome updater and eos-bash-share use the GNOME terminal by default when GNOME is chosen.
  • The EOS update notification manager has been removed from the default installation list.
  • Squid-3.3.5
  • Firefox 125.0.1-1
  • Table 1:24.0.5-1
  • Nvidia 550.76-1
  • Xorg-server 21.1.13-1 (xorg)

EndeavorOS Gemini was announced a few moments ago and you can now download from the official website of the project. Existing users can upgrade from the same operating system through the usual means
