fwupd 1.8 introduces new features and extends hardware support

fwupd

There are many things that are easier in Windows and macOS, in part because there is no such “fragmentation” that exists in Linux in which each master has his booklet, and each developer his way of doing things. When we want to update the firmware in one of those operating systems that are installed by default on most computers, we usually pull a tool that is easy to see, and the closest thing to that that there is in Linux is what has been updated a few hours to fwupd 1.8.

This version succeeds v1.7 which was launched in the middle of last October, and it came with support for Logitech hardware, among others. fwupd 1.8 has arrived with new possibilities, but also expanding support for more hardware, including the Google Servo Dock.

What does fwupd 1.8 bring

Added support for hardware like:

  • CH341A SPI.
  • Corsair Saber RGB PRO and Slipstream USB.
  • Google ServoDock.
  • Logitech M550, M650 and K650.
  • Support for more ELAM brand fingerprint readers has been added.
  • Support for more Wacom integrated panels.
  • Support for more StarLabs StarLite equipment has been added.
  • Support for more Tuxedo laptops.
  • Quectel EM05.
  • FlatFrog appliances.
  • System76 launch_lite_1.

And the list of new features (bug fixes aside):

  • A new attribute has been added for CPUs supported by HSI.
  • Added coSWID and uSWID parsers to libfwupdplugin for initial SBoM support.
  • New HSI attributes have been added for the AMD PSP and various other system protections.

  • Allows you to override the detected machine type for debugging and development.
  • Reboot the BMC after installing the BCM updates.
  • Shows the device serial number and default instance IDs.
  • Support dumping the MTD image to a firmware blob.
  • Take a device inhibit when updating a device.
  • It uses the manufacturer ID of the CFI to establish the supplier.
