The worst thing about streaming video is that there are many services and each one offers different content. If you want to watch "Better Call Saul" you have to go to Netflix, for "Game of Thrones" you need to subscribe to Max (HBO)... And something like that happens with software. Although cross-platform exists, there are applications that only work on Windows, others only on macOS, and others only on Linux. Partly to solve also part of this problem exists wubuntu.
The latest version is also known as Windows Ubuntu 11, and it has evolved from offering an interface modeled on Windows 10 to being an almost exact copy of Windows 11 (KDE). Since they began to include 11 in its name, its developer also included one of the star functions of W11: the android app support. We remind here that Wubuntu or Windows Ubuntu 11 is the successor of WindowsFX, who also supported Android before its name change, but already with 11.

The installation of software will be familiar to us, not to say that we will know it well. If we want to install LibreOffice we can do it with sudo apt install libreoffice, and if we browse the net and find a DEB package, we can install it with sudo dpkg -i package_name or by double clicking on it and doing it with the software store. The documentation? The one related to the base of the operating system, installation of packages, folder paths, etc., is the same as that of Ubuntu, as will also be part of what makes this distro compatible with Windows apps. It pulls for WINE and Winetricks, and related searches should include those names.
Support for Windows and Android apps as extras
El support for Windows applications and Android are an extra that has been added to Ubuntu LTS. As we have just mentioned, to install or run Windows applications it makes use of WINE, an old acquaintance in the Linux community and also, although much less so, in the macOS community. It is installed and configured by default, and you can install programs like GIMP or Notepad++ and they work without doing any extra steps.
If we come across an application that requires at least Windows 10, then we have to launch Winetricks and make changes, since, right now, WINE is based on Windows 7 by default. But the truth is that it works, and it works very well. Like when we are in Windows, it is only necessary to click on the file to start the installer. If the application is not very demanding, It will be installed as if we were in the Microsoft system.
Very different is the support for Android applications. Because no, you can't search for an APK, double click on it and install it. Nor can we run single apps as it allows waydroid. What Wubuntu does allow you to do is download and install an image PrimeOS (Menu/Android/Download image), and what we will obtain is a virtual machine of the operating system with Google Play included. Little else can be said about a virtual machine.
The bad thing about Wubuntu
there is something that is not bad per se, but it is for those who believe that Wubuntu is more like Windows than it really is. It is not compatible with the Microsoft Store, the official Windows store from which programs can be downloaded. It's not very serious either, since most of them can be downloaded from their website, but there are developers who only offer it in the Microsoft store, and without access to it there are programs that cannot be installed in Wubuntu. These are added to the fact that it is not possible to install them with WINE either.
What I do like less is that not a free operating system, not entirely. Although what we download from their website is free and is called the free edition, in order to take advantage of its full potential, you have to pay €35, which will unlock 100% of the PowerToys and eliminate the advertising from the previous image.
La notification appears bottom right, and we will see it every time we start the operating system. As if this weren't intrusive, Edge also opens to a web page to license the PowerToys. It is not possible to resemble someone without also taking the bad, it seems.
I have not found a way to deactivate these notifications, nor how to prevent them. From time to time DistroWatch opens so we can leave a review, and here we have to return to the documentation. Whatever is related to Linux or Ubuntu we will find it quickly with any search engine, but it will not be the same when our question is related to Wubuntu. Without knowing anything about the nature of this notification, little can be done.
I also don't like that you can't search from the search options box. Trying it opens KRunner, which is a bit… I don't know, ugly.
Conclusion
Still, it is a good option for those who want the best of both worlds and they don't know how to get it on their own. After the installation from scratch it supports the installation of many Windows applications, all of Ubuntu LTS and includes software for those who depend on Microsoft a little more. As an extra, it facilitates the installation of an Android virtual machine, with which we can, for example, play titles from Google Play.
I, who have lived in Linux for a long time, still prefer regular Ubuntu, but Wubuntu is a good option for those who want it all. Or almost everything.
