WINE 7.17, small update with two notable new features and just over 200 tweaks

WINE 7.17

WineHQ is still at half throttle. If last week we said that had introduced few tweaks, this week they have been exceeded downwards and have introduced even fewer. It seems clear that the majority of collaborators are on vacation, because it is not very normal that in the release note de WINE 7.17 Only two outstanding novelties have been mentioned, to which is added the third that includes the rest of the small tweaks.

WineHQ says that WINE 7.17 has fixed 18 bugs, but a total of 220 changes. Two weeks ago 225 were introduced, and, although it falls within what can be considered normal, the truth is that we are used to exceeding 300, even 400 on many occasions, and there have been cases in which this figure has reached to break the 600 barrier. Therefore, this new development version has to be labeled as a minor update. Anything else wouldn't make much sense.

WINE 7.17 highlights

This week, what WineHQ stands out above the rest is the high support for Unicode planes in DirectWrite and some work towards Wow64 support in the Vulkan driver. The third point always appears, and it is the one that says that several bugs have been corrected. And make no mistake: what I am writing here is not a complaint or anything like that. All I'm doing is comparing the work done on the different releases, and it's clear that things are now rock bottom.

WINE 7.17 available from  this link. In the download page there is information on how to install this and other versions on operating systems such as Debian and Ubuntu, but it can also be installed on Android and macOS.

The next version will be a WINE 7.18 coming on September 23, as long as the usual deadlines are met, and nothing makes us think otherwise due to the dates we have just entered. We don't know how high the changelog will go, but the pace needs to pick up again and it's probably over 300 by now.
