postmarketOS v21.06 Service Pack 3 brings its theme to GTK3 and GTK4, among other novelties

postmarketOS theme available in GTK3 and GTK4

I, who have had a PineTab for more than a year, know how slow the development of mobile operating systems based on Linux (Android aside) is going. Partly it is because I would like to see something that would serve as a "Daily Driver", that is, an operating system that would make me feel that using the PineTab as I do with my iPad, saving the distance, is possible. There are many teams that are following their own path, and one of them is the one that develops postmarket OS.

A few hours ago we have available el Service Pack 3 of postmarketOS v21.06, and it has come with changes that do not attract much attention. As we always say, the easiest thing to detect is the changes in the interface, and with this release, postmarketos-theme can be installed to get the GTK 3 and GTK 4 themes from postmarketOS.

What's new in postmarketOS v21.06 Service Pack 3

  • Sxmo 1.5.2 - As usual, the postmarketOS team has coordinated with the Sxmo team what should be in the service pack and thanks to the seconds, Sxmo 1.5.2 has been successfully introduced. This is version 1.5.1 tested from scratch, with minor additional fixes.
  • Tweaks 0.8.1 has a new sound panel, better notch support, some bug fixes for the background daemon, and fixed touch navigation in the mobile layout.
  • linux-postmarketos-qcom-sdm845 5.14 improves the ports of the OnePlus 6 and 6T: among other improvements, it sends initial modem support and more GPU performance.
  • ModemManager 1.18.2 was required for modem support in the SDM845 kernel. As a nice benefit it should improve call and SMS handling.
  • NetworkManager 1.32.10 was rolled back to fix hotspot functionality while firewall is on.
  • Postmarketos-theme can now be installed to get postmarketOS GTK 3 and GTK 4 themes (see photo).

In Servide Pack 2 was introduced Phosh 0.12.1, and it is that postmarketOS allows to install different interfaces, among which is Plasma. The downside is that the KDE environment is far from perfect on touch devices. The news that we have to stay with is that, although slowly, mobile Linux continues its development in different projects that are not abandoned.
