Parrot OS 5.3, the new version of this ethical hacking system introduces Linux 6.1 and MATE 1.24.1

Parrot 5.3

Parrot Security announced yesterday, through social networks, the launch of ParrotOS 5.3, codenamed Electro Ara. This is the third medium update, not a point, since they went up to 5. And if in former It was highlighted that they had uploaded to Linux 6.0, in this it should be noted that it already uses Linux 6.1. Currently the most up-to-date stable version is 6.3.x, but the choice introduced in Parrot OS 5.3 is the latest LTS version.

Parrot OS 5.3 has arrived a little less than three months after the previous version, and it is not labeled a maintenance update because the kernel has been uploaded and some other improvements have been introduced, but the number of these is not very high. Still, it should be noted that, although these new ISOs are available (in theory) from May 1, Parrot Security did not mention anything until yesterday and, at the time of writing this article, no note has been posted on their official blog.

Parrot OS 5.3 has a virtual machine out of the box for amd64

Until an official post is published on their blog, the little we can know is what they posted in their tweet and what we were able to check by taking a quick look at the latest ISO. Among them, we have the kernel, Linux 6.1; the desktop, MATE 1.24.1, and that they offer an image for virtual machines for AMD64. These images are known as OVAs, not ISOs, and are prepared to run in virtual machine software, such as VirtualBox.

We also know that it is based on Debian 11, like the previous one, something logical if we take into account that it is almost 2 years old and that the stable version of Debian 12 has not yet been released.

ParrotOS 5.3 can now be downloaded since official website in its different editions: Security Edition (the most common), Home Edition, Hack The Box, Cloud Edition, Architect and for Raspberry Pi.
