Microsoft Edge for Linux now available in Dev version, in DEB and RPM packages

Microsoft Edge on Ubuntu

U.S they had promised and here it is. Already we can test Microsoft Edge on Linux. But they have broken their promise, albeit for a good cause: it is not only available for Debian / Ubuntu, but they have also released an RPM package for Red Hat, Fedora, and any distribution that uses that type of package as well. I wouldn't be being fair if I didn't mention that I found out thanks to OMG! Ubuntu !, but I have searched on my own and I am going to provide the links so that everyone who wants to can try it.

La version available is Dev, that is, it is not the beta that we had advanced, but a preliminary version. Microsoft Edge's numbering for Linux is 88.0.673.0-1 and, at least if we install it on Ubuntu, it will add the browser's repository. Looking at "Software and Updates", what appears is the label "stable", so it is likely that the same PPA that adds us will also offer us the stable version when the time comes.

Microsoft Edge for Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat… for everyone!

The download links of Microsoft Edge for Linux you can find them in this Reddit post, where we are linked to Microsoft server for Dev version and provide us with the links for the DEB version (here) and RPM (here). As for what we will get if we install it, it is basically a preliminary version with certain limitations or restrictions, but that will allow us to get an idea of what we will be able to use in a few months. The design is almost exact to that of the Windows version, which means that it does not respect the theme of our Linux distribution.

Therefore, users who have been waiting like water in May for the launch of Microsoft Edge for Linux, you can already enjoy it. I am not one of them, so there is little I can comment on how it works. Those of you who try it, do not hesitate to leave your experiences in the comments.

The truth is that this browser only has remarkable performance in Windows (it cannot be denied), because in macOS Chrome is still better, and I say it from the daily use of both, since I use the Edge integration with Microsoft accounts . Now, you have to see how it goes on Linux, but apparently on macOS, I don't think it's a big deal

With a great infinity of browsers and most of them based on Chromium, I am not particularly interested in trying this browser, let alone leaving it as the default browser.

I am already using it as the main browser. I can only say that it is wonderful, it goes very fast, very fluid, brutal, everything works as one would expect, I have not found problems and it is very stable, I am surprised that it is the Dev channel. I can not wait for it to arrive with the remaining functions!

Other colleagues report the same to me, it is going very well and more for those of us who work with Microsoft services.
