KStars 3.2.3, the latest update for the 3.2 series now available

KStars 3.2.3 Less than three weeks after previous release, Jason Mutlaq today had the pleasure of announcing the KStars 3.2.3 release. This is a minor update and Mutlaq suggests that it could be the last update in the KStars 3.2.x series. As a "spot" update (the third one), most of the changes that come with this new version are bug fixes that have been found in previous versions of the famous KDE community planetarium.

The new version is already available in the Mutlaq repository, but has not yet reached the APT repositories or the Snap Store. In fact, the most recent versions are 3.2.0 and 3.1.1 respectively. When checking the available versions, I remember again the promise that the Snap packages would be updated sooner, something that seems to be the case in the future but is not usually the case in the present.

KStars 3.2.3 adds changes requested by users

KStars 3.2.3 too added some features requested by the user community. Now the Sky Map cursor can be configured. The default X can be an arrow or a circle. To change the pointer icon, we have to go to Configure KStars / Advanced / Appearance. Moreover, now tIt is also possible to click the left button and it immediately snaps to the object under the cursor. The default behavior is to double-click the object to bring it into focus, but if "Left-click" is selected, any left-click will snap to the object immediately.

Another small change has been to include the profile name directly in the window title for Ekos, which makes it easier to remember which profile we are running. KStars 3.2.3 also comes with slight aesthetic modifications to the icons.

KStars is available for Linux, Windows, macOS and there is a lite version for Android. Linux users can install the latest version by opening the terminal and typing these commands:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:mutlaqja/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install indi-full kstars-bleeding

As we see on its download page, another option is to install the version that is there available from software center, but it will still take several days for it to appear in the official repositories. Will you wait or install the latest version today?
