Kodi 19.2 arrives with improvements in Windows, PVR and other fixes

It had been available for a few days, but since I had not skipped the update in Manjaro (flatpak), nor had I used the Raspberry Pi during the weekend, I had not found out. Until today. On October 8, the project that develops the program that was previously called XBMC He launched Kodi 19.2. It is the second point update of Matrix, and as such, it has come to polish things up for the 19th version of the software.

Among the corrections there are many that solve problems related to Microsoft software. Some bugs fixed in Windows, finally coming to the Xbox, and then a bit of everything. For example, various locks / hangs have been fixed on PVRs, and that benefits Linux users as well. Below you have the list of changes that have been introduced together with Kodi 19.2.

  • Fixed in PVR:
    • Failure to access invalid PVR channel from favorites.
    • Crashing at startup when searching for missing channel icons.
    • Crash at startup caused by lack of a timer type.
    • "Permanently delete" recordings from the trash.
    • Other minor bug fixes.
  • In the video library, a bug has been fixed that removed UniqueIDs when the library was checked out, causing unexpected behavior for plugins that depended on those IDs.
  • In the games section, translations have been added for emulators and game controller plugins.
  • With regard to networks, management of partial messages in websocket.
  • In the add-ons, the display logic for official and third-party modules has been corrected.
  • Windows only:
    • Fixed possible crash when switching monitors due to hardware addition / removal.
    • Fixed audio passthrough not working (randomly) on some systems when screen refresh rate is on.
    • The drop swap chain used on all Windows 10 systems has been improved even if the graphics driver does not support the latest levels of DirectX features.
    • The 10-bit swap string that is used by default on Windows 10 systems when an HDR display is detected (also for 8-bit SDR video sources) has been improved.
    • Fixed possible WS-Discovery related crash when connecting non-computing devices (eg IP cameras) to the same network.
    • Fixed possible crash when HDR is enabled / disabled externally from Windows 10 display settings.
    • Fixed missing picture or erratic black level with some video drivers when limited range output is enabled in conjunction with DXVA2 hardware acceleration and HDR pass-through.
  • On Android, external storage volumes not visible on devices running older versions of the operating system have been fixed.
  • Xbox specifics:
    • Kodi 19.x now available.
    • Fixed:
      • Crashing in 4K HEVC video playback due to out-of-memory condition.
      • The graphical user interface that rendered at 1080 and upscaled to 4K instead of native 4K.
      • 4K resolution is incorrectly reported in the logs as 1920 × 1080.
      • Failure to activate "Change screen refresh rate on start / stop" with 4K resolution.
      • Tone mapping is not used by default when playing HDR videos.
      • Lack of information about the screen refresh rate in the video debugging information menu (Alt + O).
      • Internet SSL connectivity was not working because the embedded CA certificate package path could not be used.
      • Swap chain performance using DXGI_SWAP_EFFECT_FLIP_DISCARD.
      • The 10-bit swap string surfaces are used if an HDR-capable TV (even for 8-bit SDR videos) is detected.
  • The performance of the HEVC DXVA2 decoder has been improved using decoding surfaces aligned to 128 bytes.
  • In JSON-RPC:
    • Exposes the icon path of the EPG tags as the "thumbnail" property.
    • Exposes the serial number of the EPG tags as the 'seasonnum' property.

Kodi 19.2 It is now available en Flatub, and it should soon reach the official repositories of some Linux distributions, unless you use Debian or derivatives, in which case it is recommended to add the project repository or stay on Kodi 18.7 for a while.
