Fedora 34 prepares a version aarch64 with Plasma that we can use in simple plates

Fedora 34 on the Raspberry Pi

Some days ago we publish an article in which we talked about the best Linux-based operating systems that we can use on the Raspberry Pi. Today, a little over a week later, the feeling left by the author of that article is that it was published a little in advance, since Ubuntu 20.10 not only includes support, but has also released a pre-installed image for the motherboard. raspberry. I also think it was published early because Fedora 34 is preparing something interesting from my point of view.

If there are no surprises, Fedora 33 should land in a few hours, as the release date is scheduled for today October 27. But in the world of technology, progress is made very fast, and we begin to talk about the future even before a previous step has been taken, so we already know an important fact about its next installment: the project will release a KDE version for computers using the 64-bit ARM architecture, that is, that of most SBCs.

Fedora 34 with KDE desktop is coming to SBC

Fedora is currently available with the KDE Plasma desktop for the x86_64 architecture, but not for the aarch64. Yes, we can use it in the GNOME version, which is the default desktop of the distribution, and Xfce, which is the one that many distros usually choose for simple boards due to its lightness. Soon, as we can read in this page from his Wiki where they detail the plans, we can also use a version with Plasma, which for me and many others is the best desktop in Linux.

And when will it be available? Fedora usually releases a new version every six months, so should arrive in April 2021. The exact day is yet to be confirmed, but it is good news for those who want a nice graphical environment, that does not weigh too much and based on Fedora on their Raspberry Pi, although I have to admit that, right now, I am comfortable in Manjaro, too. in its KDE version.
