elementary OS ends April with design updates and more fixes

Settings

During the month of April, elementary OS it received a few updates, being, in the words of its lead, Danielle Foré, a mix of design and feature updates, bug fixes, and even more performance improvements. The last ones are those that cannot be seen, but are noticeable, like those of an Ubuntu 23.04 that, at least in the case of an old computer like my Lenovo, they served to release a second youth.

The article published by Foré begins by talking about Mail improvements, your application to manage emails. It's the biggest new feature, and now it does a better job of handling the newly added online accounts and has included fixes for a couple of crashes and crashes. In addition, they have also cleaned up the code a lot and have achieved even more performance improvements. This, although my colleague Diego says (rightly) that a good programmer must anticipate problems before they happen, is something very common: first you create, then you fix what goes wrong and add things as they go. happening.

Continuing with Mail, the post composer now always opens in a separate window, which makes it easier to focus on the message you're replying to or manage multiple drafts at the same time.

To finish with the mail application, some keyboard shortcuts have been added to, for example, format text or add attachments. Design tweaks are also seen in the app to manage emails.

The GNOME Web 44.2 application has been modified to use GTK4 and has also greatly improved performance and web standards support, and also improved the message when saving new passwords.

The elementary OS window manager is Gala, and this April they have corrected a total of 40 of the bugs reported since the launch of elementary OS 7. Among the new features included is the shortcut Alt + ~ to switch between windows of the same app, and various animations respect the preferences to turn them off. The team is working on Mutter 44, which will improve support for Wayland and support fractional scaling per screen.

Settings (Header Capture) now includes a new option to switch between workspaces via corners, as well as a feature to lower the brightness of wallpapers in dark mode. Finally, Foré has told us about a new version of Onboard that includes new pages.

Update from the operating system

To receive all these news, just go to the AppCenter and choose the option to update everything. Included in this article are new packages, many of which have probably already been installed in updates made within the last month.
