Several years ago, when I was still using a somewhat older and limited laptop, I decided to give Kubuntu a try. The operating system had many good things, but it was failing too much, many bugs paid for my taste, so I went back to Ubuntu. I gave it another chance a little over a year ago, when Plasma 5 was already well advanced, and I realized what a great job KDE had done. From the looks of it, I'm not the only one who has realized this and Ubuntu Studio think the same.
Currently, Ubuntu Studio uses Xfce, a graphical environment that offers a certain level of customization and is lightweight. This, as published by KDE Community on Twitter a few hours ago, will change in the future, since they are already working side by side so that the flavor for the most creative switch to using Plasma. On the part of the multimedia version of Ubuntu there has not yet been any communication but, if we look su Blog, the reason may be that, well, they are not very communicative.
Ubuntu Studio already works hand in hand with KDE

Ubuntu Studio, the Linux distribution "for creative humans", will be downgraded to KDE Plasma by default for future releases. The "best Plasma tools for graphic artists and photographers" and its lightweight make it the ideal desktop for Ubuntu Studio users.
According to KDE, one of the reasons why Ubuntu Studio would have decided to switch to Plasma is its lightness. And they seem to have thought: "why use a graphical environment like Xfce if Plasma also works very smoothly and offers more possibilities?".
Taking into account that the only information we have is the tweets published by the KDE Community, little more information we can give. Probably, Groovy gorilla, version that will be released in October of this year, already arrives with Plasma.
Plasma undoubtedly the best desktop environment in terms of aesthetics, configurability and performance. It would only be necessary to embed the global menu in the window, a real beast.
