Why there is so little news about KDE neon

Kde neon

At the end of one month or the beginning of another, there are several projects that publish bulletins about what has happened during the last 30 days. The most popular projects in this regard are Linux Mint and elementaryOS. There are also a lot of news about Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian... Why doesn't the same happen with Kde neon if it is a popular distribution?

KDE neon is the proprietary system of KDE. Or should I say "own", in quotes, because its base is Ubuntu. Many of those who work in neon also work in Kubuntu, but in neon they have complete freedom. There is very little news about this operating system, but the reason is easy to understand.

KDE neon is… KDE

The question here is what KDE neon actually is. It is a distribution that has base ubuntu, the latest LTS to be more specific, and the KDE software on top. It uses Plasma, KDE Frameworks and Qt. Therefore, most of the news that we could give about KDE neon is already given when the desktop, its Frameworks, Qt or Ubuntu are updated. One of the most recent news is that the next six can be used (Plasma 6, Frameworks 6 and Qt6) in your unstable edition. It is the best way to see what KDE has in store for us, but neon itself does not bring anything new or its own.

Every weekend, one of KDE's collaborators publishes a long list with the news that has taken place in his project, and a large part of it could be considered news about the distro that stars in this post. When one is thrown plasma upgrade, KDE neon changes its numbering to match the latest version of the desktop, so what we have is a mini-update of the operating system. Something similar could be said of KDE Gear and Frameworks.

It is spoken, but indirectly

I am the first one who would like to write something more about neon, which is why I have written this note, but talking about this distribution is almost talking about KDE in general. When we talk about news like the stacking system from KDE, we are indirectly talking about KDE neon. And so a little with everything.

neon is one of the best options for fans of K software. They get the updates soon, and it is said to be a semi-rolling release. Some of us maintain that this does not exist, but that the software is updated constantly and the base every two years is the closest to that definition. For more news, simply follow the ones that talk about its parent project.
