VLC 3.0.19 introduces some improvements, but the most important is only for Windows

VLC 3.0.19

I dont know when will we inform about the arrival of version 4.0, but while we wait, updates for v3.0.x continue to be released. The previous one I arrive almost a year ago, and a few days ago they gave us VLC 3.0.19, an update that could be labeled minor, especially, and as almost always, for Linux users. It has been available for a while on their servers, a little less recently on their website and we are waiting for an official statement.

But it is available, and also or change list official. The word "fix" predominates in it, so a large part of the new features are actually corrections to what was already available. There is also room for new features, but the most important one is currently only available to Windows users. And why say anything...

VLC 3.0.19 Highlights

  • In Demux:
    • Support for RIFF INFO tags for WAV files.
    • Improved chapter management in FFmpeg-muxed MP4, playback for AVI files produced by Qnap, and playback of some older RealVideo video files.
  • Decoders:
    • AV1 hardware decoding enabled on Windows.
    • Improved support for AV1 HDR with software decoding.
    • Improved rendering produced by crunchyroll SSA.
  • In the video output, Super Resolution scaling with Nvidia and Intel GPUs.
  • In the entry, SMB support on Windows 11 hosts has been improved.
  • Several patches to correct errors and two security patches have been included, which protect against vulnerabilities CVE-2023-5217 and CVE-2022-37434.

VideoLAN will make the launch official at any time by publishing it on its blog and on social networks. Linux users can download VLC 3.0.19 in flatpak and snap packages from Flatub y Snapcraft respectively. In the coming days or weeks, depending on the philosophy of each project, it will begin to appear in the official repositories of most Linux distributions.
