Raspberry stabilizes things and the supply chain begins to normalize

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a card-sized, ARM-based, single-board nanocomputer.

Last month we share here on the blog la news that things were beginning to improve the Raspberry, since after several months of trying to stabilize thingss, they had finally found a point of balance and with which they announced that it was the starting point to recover the rhythm in the supply chain of the products.

In the post things were expected to "get back to normal" pIt's the third quarter of this year and that's how it was, since just beginning the second half of the year the shortage of Raspberry Pi finally comes to an end and with it many customers expect to see a drop in the prices of the devices.

And it is that for more than a year, so much the enthusiasts, as well as professionals and even companies have fought to get Raspberry Pi, at prices in line with what is offered on the web and not overpriced as can still be seen on many websites (especially in Latin America).

The shortage of Raspberry Pi was due to several factors, including the global semiconductor crisis, the high demand for home electronics during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the popularity of the Raspberry Pi across many industries.

But there's hope on the horizon as with the support of Sony, a partner of the Raspberry Pi Foundation Raspberry Pi drive production has long been expected to rise dramatically and stay at that level "as long as it takes" to meet pent-up demand.

In the latest Raspberry Pi Community Events newsletter, Upton provided an update on the Raspberry Pi supply, which he basically mentioned Q2023 2015 as being the worst for the Raspberry Pi since 800,000, with around XNUMX units shipped. .

That may sound like a lot, but typically the Raspberry Pi delivers so much in a month. The reason for this number was partly due to a production run in December 2022 with a view to supplying more units to manufacturers and resellers during the holiday season.

Now, 2023 looks good, thanks to the support of Sony, a long-time Foundation partner. Sony was able to stock materials which meant the Raspberry Pi and Sony were able to produce more finished units. Sales projections for May 2023 are 600,000 units and 800,000 units are expected in June. But July 2023 is when things get exciting, the Raspberry Pi expects to maintain a pace of one million units per month for as long as it takes to meet pent-up demand.

Since my last update blog post in December, we have been working hard to improve the availability of Raspberry Pi products.

According to Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, the supply chain situation is improving and the availability of Raspberry Pi models should return to normal in the course of 2023.

As a thank you to our army of very patient and enthusiastic customers heading into the holiday season this year, we were able to set aside just over a hundred thousand units, split between Zero W, 3A+, and 2GB and 4GB variants. , for unit sales.

These are now making their way into the authorized reseller channel, and this is already translating into better uptime numbers at rpilocator. While we're not out of the woods yet, things are definitely looking up.

And it is that it is not for nothing, but the unpleasant side effect of the various crises that devastated Raspberry, not only affected it, but it was in general, since many of us saw the exaggerated prices of various products, for example in graphics cards which come to exceed the recommended retail price by more than 5 times, in processors, the automotive company also suffered a lot (and is still dealing with it), among other areas.
