Things are beginning to normalize for the Raspberry and the Pi Zero, Pi 3, 3B, and Pi 4 are expected to return

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a card-sized, ARM-based, single-board nanocomputer.

Recently it was announced that Eben Upton, co-creator of the Raspberry Pi and CEO of the company, recently granted an interview in which he discusses the inventory shortage affecting the popular microcontroller and the company's plans.

In her It basically talks about how bad the company has had and how it has been recovering slowly, which, the Raspberry Pi shortage is currently affecting the entire industry, which is disappointing for anyone looking to buy the Raspberry Pi these days.

And it is that the current situation in which the Raspberry Pi finds itself It can be daunting for many. since being able to get a Raspberry Pi at a "decent price", but this situation could change.

This is because during the interview the guideline was given that hundreds of thousands of RPi units are expected to be available by the third quarter of 2023, with units of the RPi Zero, Pi 3, Pi 3B and Pi 4 models, as around 2 million RPi cards are planned to be sold in Q2023 then unrestricted in QXNUMX and QXNUMX of XNUMX.

This has led to take the news in two different ways since, on the one hand, many have taken it as something bad, because RPi 5 has been waiting for some time now and the fact that the company is still not recovering indicates that we will have to wait another year for a possible indication of Rpi 5.

On the other side of the coin, the news is something positive, since many see that the company must first return to "some stability" in order to offer a new product, without neglecting existing ones.

“As you may have noticed, it can be difficult to buy a Raspberry Pi unit in stock right now. Demand for Raspberry Pi products has increased significantly since early 2021, and supply constraints have prevented us from scaling to meet that demand," Upton said in a blog post published on April 4, 2022.

This scarcity situation as many will know, was due to the Covid-19 pandemic that reduced job opportunities, labor issues, and even geopolitical uncertainties, such as the interstate chip wars in the United States and China, all of which led to chip and semiconductor shortages.

About the interview, in it Upton mentions that he expects to ship 2 million RPi boards in the second trimester and then without problems during the third and fourth quarters of 2023.

“The Pi 3A+ has been in continuous inventory for months. The Zero and Zero 2 models should start to come back, and buyers should start to see a substantial pickup in the 3, 3B+ and 4 models towards the end of this second quarter,” he said. This is a notable change from his last interview with Geerling seven months ago. Upton explained that his company was subject to the same supply restrictions as other device manufacturers.

During the Interview, Upton touched briefly on future plans for the Raspberry Pi, RISC-V and ARM architectures, Sony's investment. Finally, he mentioned that there shouldn't be a Pi 5 in 2023, as it seems the company wants to overcome existing difficulties first.

"Don't expect a Pi 5 next year [2023]," Upton said last December. He then elaborates and explains that 2023 is a "year of recovery." The year of recovery is here to help the Raspberry Pi and the tech industry recover from the double whammy of a pandemic and a global chip shortage that caused a worldwide recession.

Upton said the anger is completely understandable:

“This is the most difficult decision I have had to make in my professional career. It's extremely hard to decide, when you're a hobbyist like me, and you've built this thing (the Raspberry Pi) for hobbyists and education, to prioritize a different market (industrial customers)." According to some analysts, it appears that Upton's predictions are largely correct, and consumers will soon see more Raspberry Pi boards in stock at their favorite retailers.
