The Linux version offers the same functionality as the Window version
Microsoft announced this week the availability of a release candidate for SQL Server 2022 for Linux operating systems selected. The Linux version of SQL Server 2022 not only includes the features included in the SQL Server 2022 RC released on August 23 for Windows, but also supports various cloud features related to Azure.
Features Included include Query Store to monitor performance of the system by automatically capturing query history, plans, and runtime statistics. In addition to the new features added in RC 0, this Linux release also supports features such as Azure Synapse Link and Azure Active Directory Authentication.

About RC 0 of SQL Server 2022 for Linux
This RC also features language additions, including percentile disk approximate which, according to Microsoft, "returns the value of the set of values in a group given the provided percentile and rank specifications", and Approx Percentile Cont, which 'returns an approximate interpolated value from the set of values d' a group based on the percentile value and the rank specifications'.
On the part of the parameter sensitive plan optimization, this is a new query processing enhancement smart that is designed to improve performance of existing workloads without changes to the application code. Previously, SQL Server cached a single plan per stored procedure. This was based on a set of parameters and was called parameter tracking.
Improvements in the query store, is a performance function which helps to better track performance history and troubleshoot performance and query plan issues. In previous versions, you had to manually enable the Query Store. With SQL Server 2022, Query Store will now be enabled by default for new databases, providing better query intelligence and insight.
Query Store will now also support availability group read-only replicas, which provides better performance analysis for your read-only workloads. You can also use Query Store hints to shape query plans and improve query execution without changing your application code.
Regarding Azure, The Linux version of SQL Server 2022 supports the following features:
- Azure SynapseLink- Allows developers to use Azure Synapse Analytics to easily and directly access the Azure Cosmos DB analytics store. Integration Runtime (IR) cannot be installed in the Linux environment, so you will need to run IR on a Windows machine that is on the same network as the Linux machine running the SQL Server instance you are connecting to.
- Azure Active Directory Authentication (ADD)Note: SQL Server on Linux now includes support for AAD. SQL Server containers do not currently support this feature
- For distributed availability groups, the REQUIRED SYNCHRONIZED SECONDARIES TO COMMIT change is supported.
Microsoft continues to add features and functionality to SQL Server for Linux and makes it a growing part of your Azure enterprise cloud services, which makes sense in a fast-paced and increasingly customer-centric world of computing.

Download and get SQL Server 2022 RC 0
SQL Server 2022 RC 0 is now available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu operating systems. To download the latest RC 0 container images, you must use the '2022-latest' tags for container images. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is not yet supported to run SQL Server 2022 Preview, but it will happen with "a later version".
