Linux Mint Debian Edition 2 available with Cinnamon and MATE desktops

lmde 2 matte

Linux Mint is probably the most popular distro for a long time, something they have achieved thanks to the fact of releasing frequent updates and offering in Cinnamon y MATE two desktops as stable as they are attractive and full of options, to the point that these are included in all kinds of alternative distros. But there is a parallel project that today brings us a new milestone, and that is Linux Mint Debian Edition 2 is now available.

For those who do not know what it is about, say that LMDE is a distro that is based on Debian instead of Ubuntu as is the case with the main branch, and which at first was semi-rolling with a rare package release scheme in which the updates thoroughly tested by the development team were included. This guaranteed security and stability, but it meant that updates did not arrive as frequently as would be desirable, something that they have decided to change since from now on this will be a distro rolling release.

LMDE 2 is not compatible with Linux Mint PPAs, and there is not as much support as there is for the main branch, but in exchange for this those who use it will be able to enjoy an experience that in general it is faster and also guarantees to always have the newest versions of the appsas this is the test base that developers use to see the state of affairs and determine inclusion in Linux Mint.

Now what does it offer Linux Mint Debian Edition 2? Well to be honest the release notes they are very brief and there are not too many details, although of course we can say that it is based on Debian 8 Jessie (on your RC2), and includes the Linux 3.16 kernel and the Cinnamon 2.4 and MATE 1.8 desktops. For the rest, it will offer the stability of always and the feeling of being using a Debian but with the touches of simplicity and agility that have made Linux Mint the number 1 distro.
