Linux Kernel developer Greg Kroah-Hartman announced the end of the Linux Kernel 4.18 cycle, recommending users to upgrade to Linux Kernel 4.19 as soon as possible.
Released August 2018 by Linus Torvalds, Linux Kernel 4.18 introduced mitigations for Specter variant 1 and 2 for 32-bit ARM architectures, mitigations for Specter variant 4 for ARM64 (AArch64) and ARMv8 architecture, and initial support for Radeon Vega 20 GPUs.
In addition, it brought the runtime compiler for eBPF programs for 32-bit architectures, better support for F2FS, better support for USB-C and USB 3.2, along with official support for Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.
“I announce the release of Linux Kernel 4.18.20. All Linux Kernel 4.18 users must upgrade. This is the latest update in the series, it has reached its life cycle and needs to be updated. " Mention Kroah-Hartman.
Since Linux Kernel 4.18 has no long-term support, it reaches the end of its life with the 4.18.20 update released last week by Kroah-Hartman, on November 21st. All Linux 4.18 series users must upgrade to the latest branch, Linux Kernel 4.19.
If you are on a branch with Linux Kernel 4.18 we recommend upgrading to the 4.19 series as soon as possible.
