Krita stumbles upon the Dutch Treasury

Krita image editor in Spanish

The Krita Foundation, the foundation behind the development of Krita, has launched an alarming publication about its current situation. Apparently, even Free Software has problems with the Treasury and that has caused the Krita Foundation to have financial problems to continue operating and to launch the next versions of its software, software that has become so popular among Gnu / Linux users. .

Apparently the Krita Foundation has been inspected by the Dutch Treasury, fining the Foundation for not declaring certain taxes for courses and info-products that it was carrying out.

Officially the Krita Foundation did not have to file taxes in the Netherlands because it is a non-profit foundation. However, the inspection revealed that he had income from infoproducts (courses, guides, etc ...) which for the Dutch Treasury it means that it is part company and part foundation.

Therefore, being a company, it had to have declared the taxes of the other actions that it carried out in addition to the infoproducts. The problem comes now. The Krita Foundation had hired a developer who was doing work from Russia. Since Russia did not contemplate this activity, the Krita Foundation has not been able to justify the work properly, accumulating infractions. Total We are talking about a fine of 24.000 euros that has been reduced to 15.000 euros, but that has had a cost for the Krita Foundation of 19.000 euros.

This fine has made the Foundation run out of resources and that is why it is asking for help from everyone, since otherwise they will not be able to continue with the development of Krita. If you want to collaborate with the software, in this link you will find a donation form.

To this day I have heard of many fines and tax problems from companies related to Software, but it may be that Krita is the first Free Software to receive a fine like this. I sincerely hope that there are not many more programs with these types of problems as well as that Krita quickly fixes this situation.
