KDE Plasma 5.8.5 LTS comes to Kubuntu

Plasma Desktop 5.4

plasma 5.4

Kubuntu users are in luck, since the immediate availability of the latest version of KDE Plasma in Ubuntu has already been announced, specifically version 5.8.5 LTS of this famous desktop, which is already available within the Kubuntu repositories (Ubuntu with KDE), both in its version 16.04 LTS, and in its version 16.10.

This desk is nothing new as has arrived last month However, some tests had to be done to be able to check if this desktop was ready for these latest versions of Kubuntu, that is, to be able to work in a stable way.

Since the first version of this desktop came out last month, all previously discovered bugs have been fixed. Besides that, it had also been possible to translate into many languages, thanks to the great work done by the translation team for this operating system.

This desk is available also for the latest version of Linux Mint with KDE, which is an operating system that as you know is based on Ubuntu. So if you have one of the two Ubuntu versions already mentioned or the latest Linux Mint KDE, you will be able to update your KDE Plasma to this latest version.

To be able to do it, normally the typical sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-dist upgrade commands should suffice, which will also update the KDE Apps to the latest version and the KDE Flameworks.

However, if it can't find the file or it gives you an error, you must add the corresponding repository, which is added by putting the following command line in the console:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports

This command it should be put before sudo apt-get update if it doesn't workas it will add the repository that is missing from the operating system.
