Hushboard: a practical program to not record while typing

hushboard

Surely on many occasions you are recording something and you want to mute the microphone while you are typing so that the sound of the keyboard is not heard. But to be stopping the microphone when you start typing on your keyboard and resuming it when you finish it is not practical, that would be quite uncomfortable if it weren't for programs like hushboard.

With this new program, you can make your Linux distro microphone automatically mutes while typing and automatically reactivates when you stop writing. Thus, your recordings will come out perfect, without that sound of the impacts of your keys. In addition, you can also use it in video calls, which can be interesting for teleworking.

It is a simple application using PyGTK3 to anchor it in the menu of your desktop, in the area above, and it will always be waiting for you to start writing to stop the microphone without you having to do anything. In addition, you can see that it is working thanks to the Hushboard icon that shows the status: activated or muted. You can even click on it to get out of it and stop using it.

A very simple operation that use PulseAudio to work, and which is currently packaged for various distros using Snap parquets, and also in AUR for Arch Linux. However, in Ubuntu it will work by default quite better than in others, since, for example, Ubuntu has some extensions in GNOME that are needed for the indicator to appear on the screen, such as AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support. That would be enough ...

If you are interested install Hushboard on your distro, you can access the package Snap from here. Or also to AUR if you are using Arch Linux or derivatives. And if you prefer to install it from the source code, you can also use this other link to the GitHub site ...
