Although at first it does not seem the most intuitive to me, one of the best open source and cross-platform video editors or converters is this "handbrake". Today is making the news for having released a larger version, Hand Brake 1.4 to be more specific, and, as such, it has come up with outstanding news. Considering the software in question, the new features themselves are not very flashy, as they usually come in the form of improved support.
Among the highlights, or at least from my point of view because it is something that I use in the terminal and uses a lot of software, we have the support for ffmpeg 4.4, available from the beginning of April. Improvements have also been added to filters, subtitles and other tools. Below you have the list with the most outstanding news.

- Support for FFmpeg 4.4.
- Support for 10-bit and 12-bit video encodings, including HDR10 metadata.
- Three new filters: Chroma smoothing, color space selection, and support for QuickSync hardware accelerated scaling / cropping when full path is used.

- Hardware encryption feature enhancements on various devices powered by AMD VCN, Intel QuickSync Video, and Qualcom ARM.

Right now, Linux users can Download HandBrake 1.4 from Flatub, or looking for the Flatpak version in our software center if it is compatible. Its binaries are also available. Those who use the version of the official repositories of their distribution will have to wait a little longer. Arch Linux users already have a version git in AUR.
