Last night, at Christmas Eve dinner, it was recommended that a few people meet, something that will extend to the rest of the holidays to prevent the pandemic from spreading. But that did not stop us from staying connected with the family, whether through WhatsApp, calls or, as in my case, video calls. A brother and I were commenting on how video games have changed since we went to arcades, and he told me «What was the name of the one that broke balls that were stuck on the ceiling?«, To which I could not answer, but after looking for it, we remember that it was Puzzle Bobble, of which there is an open source version called Frozen bubble 2.
If I have thought about publishing this article here and today it has been for two reasons: the first has been the name, a "frozen bubble" that cannot be denied having a Christmas name. The second reason was simply that it wasn't on LinuxAdictos, which is surprising because it's been around for a long time. As usual, the open source version of Puzzle Bobble intended primarily for the public Linux has changed the protagonist for a penguin, a Tux balls crusher.
Frozen Bubble 2 includes Tux as the protagonist
As for the game itself, whose official page is available at this link, we can say little that is not seen in the previous video. What we have to do is shoot balls, and when we join 3, those 3 will fall and all those that are hanging of them. The default controls are the right to move the shot to the right, the left to go the other way, and the up arrow to shoot; with the F we will enter full screen. As simple as that. And so addictive. Frozen Bubble 2 too allows us to play against a partner, which will become a competition not only to see who goes the furthest, but to see who gets there first. It is basically a clone of the original game, but open source.
Its installation in Linux will depend on our distribution, although it is usually in the official repositories, as explained in the download page from Frozen Bubble 2. There is a general way to install, which is from Flatub, one of the best options for me. Whatever you choose, fun is guaranteed.
