Summer is coming and that shows in the projects whose headquarters are in the northern hemisphere. Danielle Foré is Canadian by birth, but the headquarters of elementaryOS it is in Seattle, and in both cases they are in spring and will enter summer this June. The normal thing is to slow down when the heat hits or when they take vacations, but this month they have focused on maintenance for another reason.
Drilled says that this month we have mostly minor maintenance updates, but because they are already preparing a future release packed with new features. He also says let's enjoy this mild May because this summer is going to be hot, which certainly hints that the next version of elementaryOS will come with something new. He has not anticipated what it is about, so we can let our imagination fly... or simply enjoy what we already have in our hands, which would be my personal and non-transferable advice.
What's new in May on elementaryOS
Everything discussed this month is new in project applications. The calculator now allows copy and paste using keyboard shortcuts, even when the main entry is not selected. On the other hand, it will no longer get extra white space on the right hand side of the window when used with alternate button window layers. The calculator will now always use the elementary style sheet and icons, even when running on other operating systems.
The adjustments They now have a new version of Security and Privacy and now supports the zone portal. It is a more secure method for applications when requesting access to location services and the latest FreeDesktop.org standard for doing so.
The application of music now supports drag and drop of entire folders, and a folder can be right-clicked from Files and opened with the Music app. Also, the flatpak version has been updated and fixes certain animations.
Among the rest of the updates, the latest version of Website fixed a crash in the favorites popup window, improved reliability when building web applications, and added a patch related to a local storage request.
The Calculator, Camera, Captive Network Assistant, Music, Screenshots, and Videos apps have been updated to the latest version of flatpak platform, which saves a bit of hard drive space.
To get all these updates, just open AppCenter and click “Update too”.
