The team led by Danielle Foré, that of the project elementary OS, plans to launch version 7.1 of its operating system soon. When the time comes, they will publish detailed information about that version, and we will echo it, but at the moment that is still a bit away, so they have had time to publish a bulletin for September 2023, corresponding to August of the same year, with the news that have arrived in the last 30 days.
Among them, most of them tell us about improvements or new functions in applications, such as reports (Feedback), which you already use GTK4 and now includes a search option. With this app, users can stay connected with elementary OS developers and the latter can fix any issues the former come across as long as they report it.
Other elementary OS news
The application of videos also looks towards GTK4 (header capture), but there is still work to be done. The first thing is to leave Clutter, which has led to a restructuring of the internal components. The base is now much cleaner and clearer and should be more reliable and perform better. The latest version still uses GTK3, but the next one should already use GTK4.
La latest version of Files has a new LibHandy-based tab bar with improved animations, smoother drag-and-drop, and reorganized tab context menus. On the other hand, the way in which label colors are stored has been rewritten, so they will be better preserved when restoring them from the trash, for example.
In adjustments, some of the keyboard has been moved to other areas, like the floating keyboard is now in the Behavior tab and the panel indicator settings are now in Desktop/Dock and panel. The panel itself now uses the elementary stylesheet and icons to avoid styling issues, a change that was made due to community feedback that it looked bad when modifying the system's visual effects.
To get all these new features, all you have to do is open AppCenter and then click "Update All".
