Canonical Releases New Kernel Updates for Supported Ubuntu Versions

Canonical released several Kernel updates for all supported Linux distributions, correcting more than 50 vulnerabilities that affect different components.

The new kernel security updates are available for users of Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Ttrusty Tahr on 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, as well as Raspberry Pi 2 systems, Amazon Web Services (AWS) systems , Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other cloud environments.

According to Canonical's announcement, these updates patch 18 vulnerabilities in Linux Kernel 4.15 for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, 9 vulnerabilities in Linux Kernel 4.4 for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 53 vulnerabilities for Linux Kernel 3.13 in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Several security gaps were fixed in the Linux Kernel XFS file system implementation, EXT4 file system implementation, procfs file system, JFS file system implementation, KVM implementation, VESA driver, and random data implementation.

Also, fixed buffer overflow in CDROM driver implementation, many USB / IP implementation bugs, AMBA and SCSI driver bugs. Many other drivers were also updated.

Canonical recommends that all users of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS update your installations immediately using the official repositories or the website.

Users who upgrade must get linux-image 4.15.0.33.35 for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS 64-bit, linux-image 4.4.0.134.140 for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 32 and 64 bit, lastly Ubuntu 14.04 users will end up with linux-image 3.13.0.157.167.
