Atari VCS is still alive and will upgrade to AMD Ryzen

Ataribox

We have already spoken on several occasions about the Atari CVS game console, a retro console that has many new features to satisfy both nostalgic and current gamers. In it you can run classic video games from the famous Atari platform, but it will also be a console where you can run modern video games produced by indie developers, which will have little to do with triple A or large studios, but which are the type of video games that will captivate you ...

Well, although the project has been financed for some time through the IndieGoGo platform, we still have not had great information about it and we know little about it. What is certain is that the project has not died, although it makes little "noise", they are simply working on it in a more passive and silent way. In fact, we have now learned that the Bristol Ridge APU on which the project was based, now it will be updated.

The new processor that it will integrate will be based on the current AMD Ryzen, in order to have a more versatile processing unit. That also means that the APU's integrated graphics will move from the Radeon R7 of the previous APU to the Radeon Vega of the new AMD APU. A significant leap in quality and performance, with the new Zen dual-core chip made in 14nm technology, although they have not yet officially revealed too many details.

The bad news is that it seems that the final product is going to be delayed in its delivery and now they are date what would be the end of 2019. A delay justified that in principle it is caused by this new update. Something that is not negative, but surely the fans who are waiting for it do not like to know about this new delay even if it is for a good cause and it means having more powerful hardware.
