Zink Vulkan controller lands on Mesa with impressive upgrade

Zinc

The controller Zinc Vulkan now lands on MESA, with some improvements and hundreds of video game titles will thereby achieve a notable improvement in performance. In fact, its developers assure that the improvement obtained would be more than 1000% of FPS (Frames Per Second).

Zink is an OpenGL implementation that works on top of the Vulkan API. A quite interesting development and with great virtues for the world of open source graphics drivers Linux. Now the new code has performance improvements for MESA.

Changes in the source code are specifically related to the sub-allocator. Something you have worked on Mike blumenkrantz, a developer with a contract from Valve and who is collaborating with this project. He himself showed how the Tomb Raier video game running in Zink with this new code would go from 9 FPS to 91 FPS. A really impressive jump ... Blumenkrantz himself said that "performance in games like Tomb Raider has been observed to increase by more than 1000%".

Recently this code also came to MESATherefore, it should appear in the next version 21.3 of this other project, which is planned to be published later this year.

Obviously, this increase will not be the case in all titles, and it is not done on the execution of the game as normal, but is based on the data initially obtained on Zink compared to the data obtained on Zink with the enhancement. Even so, it is still surprising and it is a sign that the driver is maturing, allowing many more OpenGL games to run on Vulkan.

On the other hand, now Zink also includes some other changes that are related to the compatibility, which means that this will allow to bring even more game titles that are compatible ...
