Lliurex 16, a new version of the most powerful educational distro of Spanish origin

Lliurex 16.06

Despite being in the middle of summer, a time when many take the opportunity to take a well-deserved vacation, the development of new versions and new distributions continues these days. And although the distribution that we are going to talk about today is an old acquaintance, it is true that its use is mainly focused on Valencia.

Lliurex is a distribution that was born in Valencia as a result of that boom that occurred years ago where every region, city or town wanted to have their own Gnu / Linux distribution. Only a few distributions remain from that boom, including Lliurex. And yesterday, the Lliurex development team has released a new version called Lliurex 16.

Lliurex 16 is a version that uses Ubuntu 16.04.2 as the main base. Although we must warn that this version has a high customization and tools that we will not find in any other distribution.

This version has MATE as the main desktop, with Plank as the dock and Conky as the system monitor, by the way, configured by default to appear from minute one. We will not find the Ubuntu Software Center or the Gnome Software Center, but if we will find two applications to install software.

One for the system administrator and one for the user. The systems administrator software application allows the installation of software from repositories, deb files, or executable files, including scripts. The User Software Application is a fairly custom tool in the form of the App Store to help all users install software on their computer.

Along with these tools and the software that Ubuntu adds by default, the user will find two more applications that are very interesting. One of them is a Google Drive client, a tool from the Lliurex team that makes us have Drive on our team as if it were the native application. A fully configurable client that is added to the distribution's file manager. The second application is oriented to the educational world, it is called Children's Assembly. It is an application that incorporates a small social network for class users, a private social network that is managed by the teacher of each class.

Lliurex 16 is a version that can be used on a computer or laptop but also in educational centers through thin clients and servers. This system makes Linux can be used in a school for a very small cost, thanks to its compatibility with Raspberry Pi. The latest version of Lliurex 16 can be obtained through the official website of the project. It can be obtained for free and installed on as many computers as we want.

I personally think that Lliurex 16 is geared towards more than just the educational world. Your custom tools make Lliurex ideal for other users such as novice users or users who work with Google. That is why it has caught my attention and I may not be the only one who is going to use it.

Mate, excellent choice. I have it with Debian 9 and delighted.
