It wasn't long ago that Chromium users got a makeover in their web browser. This was the result of the new version of the web browser that brought with it a new look. But the web browser was not the only thing that was updated. Google has released a new version or update of its operating system, Chrome OS and its devices. Thus, along with this new version, chromebook users will be able to install their favorite Gnu / Linux applications.
Yes, from now on, Chrome OS will not only run its own apps but it will also run Android apps and Gnu / Linux apps, thus being the first operating system in terms of number of programs, above the old Windows.
The version that we have to look for in order to install the Gnu / Linux application is number 69, but Google has warned that this support is still in beta, so it can give problems with some applications. What's more certain models of Chromebooks will not be able to run these applications due to kernel issues. We can check the list of compatible devices through this link.
In any case, the notes on this release speak of a correct operation of the wine emulator, making Windows applications run within the Chrome OS itself. The new version of Chrome OS not only brings this novelty but also adds an application called Files that allows us to save documents and settings that will be sent to our Google Play account.
Chrome OS is based on the development of Chromium OS, a totally free version and advanced in development to Chrome OS, so if we have problems with this new function we can always go to Chormium OS and this problem may have been solved. What's more, Chromium OS is a free operating system that has fewer restrictions than Chrome OS.
Personally I don't like Chrome OS very much but I have to admit that during the last months Google is activating the project and that is making many new features appear such as compatibility with Android apps or Gnu / Linux applications Will macOS apps be next? What do you think?
