What if you could have an AMD Ryzen and a Ray Tracing GPU on your Android device?

AMD Ryzen-C7

The rumor that has jumped in recent days comes from an image posted on a leak site about an alleged patent for a new CPU for mobile devices. This might seem like a normal thing, but if I told you that that CPU would be an AMD Ryzen and with a powerful GPU with Ray Tracing, then the impact of the news could be much higher.

Can you imagine having a device Android mobile capable of extreme performance and a GPU capable of showing you the best possible graphics for your video games? Can you imagine the power provided by Ray Tracing that the new Xbox or PS5 will have on a mobile phone? Well, if this AMD Ryzen C7 SoC is confirmed and it is not just a rumor, then you will not have to imagine it, since it will be real ...

As you can see in the leaked image, a supposed AMD Ryzen C7 appears and some of the technical characteristics that they would have. In my opinion, it looks more like a fake than anything else. Although we will have to be cautious in case it finally was not. It could be a joke or false news based on the famous collaboration between Samsung and AMD I already announced, but in which case I doubt it is manufactured by TMSC, since Samsung has its own foundry.

All the technical characteristics that you can see are:

  • Name: AMD Ryzen C7. This could be suspicious, as C7 is a VIA brand, and I'm not sure it was called that. In addition, if it is the Samsung SoC, the normal thing is that it continues to be called Exynos.
  • Nuclei: is a big.LITTLE that uses 8 cores. 2 high-performance ARM Cortex X1 based 3Ghz and called Gaugin Pro Mobile, a new brand that does not belong to either AMD or Samsung at the moment, and it seems weird… Is it the result of the missing ARM-based AMD K12? I doubt it, this one was clearly oriented for servers and used ARM Cortex-A57 cores without changes. On the other hand, it also has 2 other medium performance cores called Gaugin Mobile core based on ARM Cortex A78, and another 4 low performance / consumption ARM Cortex A55. These clusters work at 3, 2.6 and 2 Ghz respectively.
  • Our Process: the node used would be the 5nm node from TSMC, which is in line with what AMD is doing now when choosing this foundry in Taiwan, but which would not make much sense in the case of being the joint SoC with Samsung.
  • GPU: there is talk of an AMD RDNA2 with Ray Tracing and 45% more performance than the Qualcomm Adreno 650. A real beast for gaming that would be very interesting, and it would be the first mobile GPU with real-time Ray Tracing acceleration by hardware.

Also, as you can see in the leaked paper it would have support for 5G, etc. Undoubtedly very striking details that if true would be a revolution, although it is probably not real ...
