Just yesterday we wrote an article in which we said that a whole month had passed since the release of Kinetic Kudu and Lunar Lobster's Daily Live was still not downloadable. Hours after publishing that post, Ubuntu Budgie, which is usually the first to report almost everything, published a tweet saying that the first Daily Live for its operating system was already available for download, and now the from the rest of the brothers Ubuntu 23.04.
Initially, what was uploaded were the Ubuntu 64 arm23.04 images, but not the amd64 image (for "normal" computers). Soon after, flavors like the aforementioned Ubuntu Budgie and Lubuntu had already uploaded their first Daily Live, but Ubuntu 64's amd23.04 still kept us waiting a little longer. Now, on Thursday morning in Spain, we can try now which will be the next version of the Canonical system... but, for those who do not know how all this works, the "hype" must be lowered.
Ubuntu 23.04 is coming April 20
The most serious versions are the LTS. They release in the Aprils of even numbered years, and the three normal cycle releases between LTS and LTS serve as a test bed for everything they will introduce. After Jammy Jellyfish (22.04), this October they have delivered Kinetic Kudu (22.10), and the next version will be another normal cycle that will arrive on April 20, 2023. As for development, when a new one starts, it is done on the older version, so right now, beyond installing neofetch and seeing the name of Lunar Lobster, what there really is is Kinetic Kudu.
About what Lunar Lobster will bring, the first thing we know is that it is about a month late, at least in terms of tests and bug reports. When it arrives in April, the major version will use GNOME 44, Kubuntu will use Plasma 5.27, and the rest will use updated versions of desktops and applications. You are expected to use Linux 6.2, and the main version could release the new Subiquity installer, although it cannot be used at the moment; We will see in the coming months.
