Xfce 4.14 will come with GTK3 +

While the development of the new version of the Xfce 4.14 desktop continues, new news about the features that it will have is known. One of the latest news has indicated that Xfce 4.14 will integrate with GTK3 +.

This was an open secret and one of the objectives of the project developers, which is confirmed to have been fulfilled. From now on, Xfce will outrun GTK2 + and come with GTK3 +. The development team has already started work on converting the main desktop components to GTK3 in Xfce 4.13, the current development release.

Some desktop components have already been successfully ported, like the command console and the tool to take screenshots, plus a lot of desktop plugins. However, there is still a lot to do, as some of the most important components, such as the Tunar file manager, have not yet been ported. The porting of all components will be ready for the release of Xfce 4.14, which will be 100% GTK3 + and 100% stable.

The reason for the portability to GTK3 +, is that now it will be much easier to integrate technologies like Wayland to the desk. Besides this, GTK3 + is more intuitive and comes with more tools than GTK2 +, so it is definitely a plus.

Xfce is a desktop characterized by be lightweight and low-income, but without ceasing to offer a good user experience to those who use it. Thanks to GTK3 +, new technologies can be used in Xfce 4.14 without affecting the good performance of the desktop or even reducing the consumption of resources.

For now we will have to wait a little longer for Xfce 4.14 to come out and at the moment no more details are known. We only know that the GTK3 + version will be equal to or higher than version 3.2.
