When we talk about software that is used to run applications from another environment, we can talk about thousands of things that can be improved, but the most important are the engines that emulate the operation of other technologies. For this reason, among all the changes that can be introduced, they usually stand out when these engines are updated, and WINE 8.6 arrived a few hours ago with an update for the Gecko engine, although this is less important than Mono.
WINE 8.6, which arrives two weeks after the v8.5, use now Gecko 2.47.4, and to clarify what it's for, WINE implements its own version of Internet Explorer, and the implementation is based on a custom version of Mozilla's Gecko. The other points WineHQ has highlighted this week are a built-in Musl libc math library and improved spool file support in the PostScript driver, plus the usual miscellaneous fixes. In terms of numbers, WINE 8.6 has fixed 25 bugs and introduced a total of 368 changes.
Bugs fixed in WINE 8.6
- Pepakura viewer: err:wgl:X11DRV_wglShareLists Cannot share viewlists, context is already created!
- Several applications need the DirectShow MPEG Layer-3 decoder filter / l3codecx.ax (The Westerner, 3D Mark 2001SE).
- Team Fortress Arcade and Pixel Force: Music from Left 4 Dead does not play.
- Graphical issues in Inquisitor (red squares painted on the screen).
- Watchtower Library 2016 crashes when trying to play a video.
- Several games trigger GL_INVALID_FRAMEBUFFER_OPERATION in wined3d (free horror game "My Place", DiRT Rally 2.0).
- CounterPath Bria Solo crashes after login dialog.
- The Bat! v9.3.4.12: Missing content in TTreeViews on Windows versions higher than 8.
- schtasks.exe:schtasks fails on Windows 7 when privileges are missing.
- Not elevated schedsvc:rpcapi fails on Windows 7.
- uiautomationcore:uiautomation fails on Windows 10 1909.
- Several applications crash because the CFGMGR32.dll.CM_MapCrToWin32Err function is not implemented (Matrix Awakens MegaCity Unreal Engine 5.1 demo, Hogwarts Legacy).
- Broken Chromium sandbox, needs NtQueryInformationProcess with ProcessHandleTable.
- taskschd:scheduler – test_GetTask() fails on Windows 7 when you do not have sufficient privileges.
- schedsvc:rpcapi causes taskschd:scheduler to fail in w7u_adm.
- CubicSDR crashes on unimplemented function msvcp140.dll.?.
- Rethrow_future_exception@std@@YAXVexception_ptr@1@@Z.
- dinput:device8 – test_dik_codes() sometimes gets timeouts in the GitLab CI.
- schtasks.exe:schtasks causes taskschd:scheduler to crash on w7u_adm and w8adm.
- Compilation fails with gcc 4.8.4 - error: Missing binary operator before token "(".
- dinput:device8 – test_mouse_keyboard() fails on some Windows 7 locales.
- The Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 demo takes +- 9 minutes to complete by extracting 'Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 DEMO.msi' .
