WINE 8.2 arrives with just under 300 changes and improved support for WoW64

Following the cycle of a new development release every two weeks, WineHQ He launched yesterday a new version of their software to run Windows programs on other operating systems, WINE 8.2 to be more specific. During this phase, the project makes hundreds of changes and fixes many bugs, preparing everything for the release of WINE 9 that will arrive in 2024. Near that time, the cycle will change to one Release Candidate per week, but for now we will have a new one. development release every other Friday.

The list of novelties introduced includes 22 bugs fixed and 285 changes in total. Among the highlights, WineHQ mentions improved debugging information in WoW64 mode, Wow64 trunks in the WPCA library, support for the Indeo IV50 codec, and monitor names set from EDID data, to which adds the last point of various corrections.

Bugs fixed in WINE 8.2

• The Void fails with d3dx9_36 (needs D3DXFillCubeTextureTX() to return S_OK).
• Regression: Visual Studio 2005 "failed to load package".
• STDOUT missing from a forked program on Cygwin/MSYS2.
• SubLab VST3 plugin fails to register (needs Windows.System.Profile.SystemManufacturers.SmbiosInformation).
• The new marshaller typelib depends on IID_IDispatch support of the target interface.
• opengl32:opengl – test_copy_context() fails on w11pro64_nv.
• d3dcompiler_43:hlsl_d3d11 & d3dcompiler_47:hlsl_d3d11 – test_trig() fails on w11pro64_nv.
• vbscript fails to compile when a colon follows Else in If…Else.
• Rich Edit inserts newly composed text at the wrong position when system IME composition ends while a selection is active.
• loader is not started from the PATH unless it is called "wine.
