WINE 7.4 arrives with the light theme activated by default and more than 500 changes

WINE 7.4

It's been two weeks since we had v7.3 of software to run Windows apps on other operating systems, so it was time for a new development version. This time, WineHQ launched WINE 7.4, the fourth update of those that are released every two weeks to prepare things for WINE 8.0 that will arrive in early 2023. Until then, the team of developers behind this project will release just over 20 development versions before move on to the Release Candidates phase.

This week we cannot say that the modification record has been broken. To the 14 corrected bugs we must add a total of 505 changes, and if they have not risen again from the 600 it has not been because of Eric Pouech, who this week has been in charge of introducing a total of 182. 200 changes was a relatively low figure in this phase, between 300 and 400 was the normal, but since Pouech is at full speed, raising the 500 just seems like a small thing.

WINE 7.4 highlights

What WineHQ has decided is noteworthy about WINE 7.4 is that light theme is on by default, the bundled vkd3d library, the WineD3D, D3D12 and DXGI modules have been converted to PE, more large-scale cleanups to support the 'long' type, and the usual miscellaneous fixpoint.

WINE 7.4 available from  this link; the second one provided by WineHQ doesn't usually work, I don't know what's wrong with them, and that's why I don't add it to this type of article anymore. In the download page there is information on how to install this and other versions on operating systems such as Debian and Ubuntu, but it can also be installed on Android and macOS.

The next version will be a WINE 7.5 Coming March 25, and we accept bets again: will they return to exceed 600 changes like in recent weeks? Which developer will fix the most bugs? We also cannot rule out reaching the 700 figure, since until recently we did not believe that it was possible to reach 600 and we have already exceeded it a few times. The only thing we can guarantee is that they will fix many bugs, and that the details will be known within two weeks.
