WINE 7.2 arrives with Mono 7.1.1 and more than 600 bugs fixed

WINE 7.2

It is already known that at this stage of development, the team behind the software called "Wine" and that allows us to run Windows applications on other operating systems puts many patches. They are usual between 200 and 400, but I think that with the launch de WINE 7.2 All records have been broken. There have been many changes, but we have to remember that this is a development version, and not a stable one like the one released in January 2022.

WineHQ says they have fixed 23 bugs, but the number of changes made amounts to 643. 400 is usually more than average, 500 is well above average, and going over 600 is something I don't remember seeing in years. Part of the blame lies with Eric Pouech, who has made 207 changes, and Zebediah Figura, who has made 102. Between these two developers they have made almost half the total number of changes. There have been other developers who have made dozens of changes, but their work has been overshadowed by that of Pouech and Figura.

WINE 7.0 highlights

Among those more than 600 changes, we could say that WineHQ had a hard time providing us with a list of highlights, but it has done what it always does: mention only five to which is added the usual “miscellaneous bug fixes”. The five novelties that have stood out are large-scale cleaning to support the 'long' type with MSVCRT, the engine Mono has been updated to version 7.1.1, more thematic fixes to common controls, start of a WMA decoder, and support for 64-bit time_t.

WINE 7.2, which we remind again that it is a development version and not a stable one, it is available in this y this other link, but I would pass the second because it usually fails. In its download page There is also information for adding the repository to operating systems like Debian or Ubuntu, along with instructions for installing it on other systems like macOS.

On Friday 25 February they will release WINE 7.3, and we can only say two things: the first is that they will add hundreds of small changes, and the second is that the total number will almost certainly be less than this week.
