WINE 7.11 brings Android driver to PE and nearly 300 changes

WINE 7.11

As every two weeks in this phase of development, WineHQ has returned to publish a new version of its software to run Windows applications on other platforms. This time it is WINE 7.11, and it will not go down in history as one of the most important or exciting reviews. The last week, at least the Mono engine was uploaded to v7.3.0 and almost 400 changes were reached. This week we can say neither one nor the other.

A few patches ago, there were a couple of developers who seemed to be competing to see who could fix the most bugs, with over 600 changes for two weeks straight. The average is usually between 300-400, so the 284 changes this week are a little below what we are used to. In addition, the list of outstanding novelties that WineHQ has provided does not mention anything really special either.

WINE 7.11 highlights

This week only three novelties have stood out: the Android driver has been converted to PE, support for Zero-copy with GStreamer and support for High Unicode planes in cases of mappings has been added. In addition to that, and as always, the fourth point has been added where several corrected bugs are mentioned.

WINE 7.11 available from  this link, and part of the news this week is that they no longer provide the second. Just when we had discovered that this second link worked over time, it is as if they had read us, and it seems that from now on they will only put one, the good one, the one that has always worked. In the download page there is information on how to install this and other versions on operating systems such as Debian and Ubuntu, but it can also be installed on Android and macOS.

The next version will be a WINE 7.12 coming July 1. We don't know how many changes they'll introduce in two weeks, but it should be a couple of hundred or more.
