The trend is confirmed, more or less. Last week, WineHQ launched the first CR of the seventh major update of its software to emulate Windows software in other operating systems, and it did as in the versions that it releases every two weeks, that is, it provided us with a list with hundreds of changes. This Friday, the developer team has launched WINE 7.0-rc2, and the note of this release is not as "stingy" as those published now a year ago.
Still, since they're on feature freeze, WineHQ says they've fixed 34 bugs and introduced a lot less tweaks, a total of 74 changes. They do not highlight anything as noteworthy, as new features will no longer be introduced at this stage of development and all the work they are going to do in the next few weeks will be to correct what they did in previous ones.
WINE 7.0 will arrive in early 2022
The development version Wine 7.0-rc2 is now available.
What's new in this version (see below for details):
- Only bug fixes, we are in the freeze of the code.
WINE 7.0-rc2 is the second Release Candidate of WINE v7.0, the next major update coming early 2022. At this stage of development, WineHQ launches an RC every seven days and, as you read in the list of new features, nothing stands out anymore. To know the changes that have been introduced, among which we remember that there will be no new functions, you must read the list of changes.
WINE 7.0-rc2 It is now available from this y this other link, although the second takes a little longer to be operational. Next Friday the 24th, if they do not take a vacation because it is Christmas Eve, they will launch WINE 7.0-rc3, and the description will be the same as the one provided in today's announcement.
