WINE 7.0-rc1 arrives as the first Release Candidate with many more fixes than expected

WINE 7.0-rc1

We knew it had to arrive soon and we already have it here. WineHQ launched WINE 7.0-rc1, the first Release Candidate of the next version of the software to run Windows apps on other operating systems. Taking a look back in time, things are being different in 2021. Last year there were 22 development versions before the first RC, and this year there have been 23. But what is most striking is that when they released the Releases Candidates of WINE 6.0, the project did not provide as much information about the corrections introduced.

In WINE 6.23 they were introduced more than 400 changes, and we hoped that this week WINE 7.0-rc1 would arrive and that WineHQ would say that which is the version that marks the freezing of functions, little more. But what we have had is a note like those of the development versions, highlighting two little things (plus the usual "bug fix"), saying that they have corrected 32 bugs and introduced a total of 213 changes. It is not the 400-500 from previous weeks, but neither is it the 4-5 that they mentioned a year ago.

WINE 7.0-rc1 brand feature freeze

This is the first release candidate for the next version of Wine 7.0. Marks the beginning of the annual code freeze period. Please give this version a try and report any issues you find to help us make 7.0 the best it can be. "

What WineHQ stands out about this release is that it has reimplemented the WinMM driver for joystick and that all Unix libraries have been converted to the syscall-based interface, in addition to the usual "miscellaneous bug fixes" that this week have exceeded 200.

Considering that WineHQ has changed its modus operandiThe only thing we can assure you is that the next version will be WINE 7.0-rc2, and it will almost certainly arrive in seven days, on Friday, December 17th. WINE 7.0-rc1 It is now available from this y this other link, and the stable version will arrive in early 2022.
