Two weeks after the previous version and true to its biweekly appointment, WineHQ has just released a new development version of its software to run Windows applications on non-Microsoft operating systems. Specifically, what we can already download is WINE 6.5, and as one of the first in this series, it has come with a good handful of changes, more than is usual even at the beginning.
As we read in the release note, WINE 6.5 has corrected 29 bugs, but the interesting thing is below, where you can see no less than 414 changes. WineHQ usually highlights only a few new features as the most important, and this week they mentioned that they have improved support for IE. WINE 6.5 highlights
- Support for OpenCL has been updated to version 1.2.
- Increased support for IE compatibility modes in MSHTML.
- More work in RichEdit without windows.
- Some more stubs from the WinRT library.
- Various bug fixes.
Interested users can now install WINE 6.5 from its source code, available in this y this other link, or from binaries that can be downloaded from here. In the link from where we can download the binaries there is also information to add the official project repository to receive this and other future updates as soon as they are ready for systems like Ubuntu / Debian or Fedora, but there are also versions for Android and macOS .
The next development version will be WINE 6.6, and it will surely arrive next Friday, April 9, since WineHQ is not exactly famous for varying the calendar. Among what you will introduce, the only thing we can assure you is that will come with hundreds of small improvements and corrections as usual.
