WINE 6.0-rc4 arrives on Christmas day to continue preparing for the next release

WINE 6.0-rc4

And so it will be until the release of the stable version. One week after the third Release Candidate, WineHQ has continued with its inexorable schedule and launched WINE 6.0-rc4. As in the previous three, and those that usually release every two weeks before reaching the RC, it is a development version, but one much closer to the final version that will arrive very soon.

Unlike the development versions that release every two weeks and before the RC, WineHQ no longer mentions notable changes, and the reason is that they have already entered the freeze feature. All they include now are tweaks to improve the software they had already introduced in weeks past. Still, they do mention 29 fixes and a total of 37 changes. Logically, they are nothing compared to those introduced before this phase of development, which can multiply the amount by ten, but it is what is necessary at the moment.

WINE 6.0 will land sometime in January

Like last week, and in the two previous releases, WineHQ highlights this week only «bug fix only, we are in code freeze«. The stable version of WINE 6.0 will arrive sometime in january.

Interested users can now install WINE 6.0-rc4 from its source code, available in eth y this other link, or from binaries that can be downloaded from here. In the link from where we can download the binaries there is also information to add the official project repository to receive this and other future updates as soon as they are ready for systems like Ubuntu / Debian or Fedora, but there are also versions for Android and macOS .

If nothing happens, the next version will be WINE 6.0-rc5 and will arrive on the first day of 2021, that is, on January 1 of the year in which we are about to enter.
