WINE 6.0-rc2 arrives with few fixes to prepare for stable release

WINE 6.0-rc2

After last week's release, WineHQ has returned to be as punctual as ever and has launched WINE 6.0-rc2. Keep in mind that RCs are not exactly the same as other development versions that release every two weeks, since they arrive when the stable version is close, but they are still preliminary versions. This particular rc2 has come to polish a bit what was released seven days ago, but very little compared to what was released on other occasions.

In fact, the rc1 came with more than 450 changes, while WINE 6.0-rc2 has only introduced 40 fixes and 64 changes, peccata minuta if we compare it with the two hundred at least that they usually include. It is also striking that this time they have not included any novelty as outstanding, not even 3-4 to which the usual "various corrections" is added. Or not, if we read what they have added as "novelty."

WINE 6.0-rc2 includes only fixes

As we read at the beginning of the release note, this version includes bug fix only as they are in code freezing. The freezes, which in English is usually said as "Feature / Code Freeze", is what they call the moment in which it is not allowed to add changes, unless they are to polish what they had already added in previous versions.

Interested users can now install WINE 6.0-rc2 from its source code, available in this y this other link, or from binaries that can be downloaded from here. In the link from where we can download the binaries there is also information to add the official project repository to receive this and other future updates as soon as they are ready for systems like Ubuntu / Debian or Fedora, but there are also versions for Android and macOS .

The stable version of WINE 6.0 will arrive in january.
