One of the most important and necessary add-ons for those who come from Microsoft operating systems or those who still work with Windows, is Wine. Wine is an emulator that allows us to run Windows programs on our Gnu / Linux distribution and even allows us to run Windows applications on macOS. But this will change with the next big version.
Wine developers have confirmed that Wine 3 will bring a novelty and that is that it will not only support Windows applications but will also be compatible with Android applications.
Currently only an application for Gnu / Linux allows us to install Android applications on our computer with Gnu / Linux. This application is called CrossOver and although it has a trial version, the truth is that CrossOver is a proprietary solution that is incompatible with many users. Maybe because of it, Wine developers have decided to incorporate this feature for the next Wine 3.
Wine 3 will allow MacOS and Gnu / Linux to work with Android apps
Wine 3 is expected to be released to the public early 2018, a version that will be able to run Android elements but not all, that is, Google apps or apps that require Google services will not be able to work with this version of Wine. Microsoft's libraries will also be updated and Wine 3 will be compatible with Direct3D 12 and Vulkan, important add-ons for rendering and running graphic applications.
At the moment, we do not have the option to have this version in our Gnu / Linux but we can use the repositories developers to have the new version in our distribution when it is available. In any case, if we do not use Android apps, the problem is not serious and if we want to use Android apps, Either we use CrossOver or we wait for Wine 3but it will be a real thing in no time Don't you think so?
Very good »Wine Is not an Emulator», heh heh anyway…. also thanks for the info… great things await us with wine 3
