Officially WhatsApp does not have a desktop application but there are many equally good alternatives than the smartphone app. One of them is to make use of WhatsApp Web, an official substitute to say the least curious of this client.
Thanks to Electron technology, a developer called Enrico204 has managed to create an application that works the same as the official smartphone client but in this case is aimed at the desktop or laptop computer. This application is called WhatsApp Desktop. WhatsApp Desktop is an application written in electron that can be installed in any Gnu / Linux distribution as well as in Windows or MacOS. It is also free and we can get it from this link.
WhatsApp Desktop supports all current WhatsApp features and You do not need to have the app open or have the smartphone on the same network as in WhatsApp Web. We can even customize the avatar and profile of our account from the application.
WhatsApp Desktop is not the only unofficial client that exists for WhatsApp. Currently we can choose applications such as Wire o French that allows us to have all the WhatsApp messages as well as the famous browser extensions that make us receive notifications when we are browsing the Internet. The latter use the WhatsApp Web API, so we will need to do it now typical photo to the QR code to make the connection.
In any case, both these extensions and WhatsApp Desktop are applications that can serve us in a moment of need or in case of need to work, but not as usual use, since WhatsApp is still made for smartphone screens although there is also the possibility to use Whatsapp for tablet in a few easy steps.

This application is the same as the web version. And the same developer says: Any communication between the user and WhatsApp servers is handled by official WhatsApp Web itself; this is just a native wrapper for WhatsApp Web, like a browser.
And Wire doesn't handle WhatsApp messages.
An article full of errors.
Hello:
WhatsApp has another serious problem, it is proprietary and we do not know what it does to the user.
greetings.
In the same way it can be done with nativefier, they have long published how to use this tool. I am an Archlinux user and so I use WhatsApp Desktop (WhatsApp Web)
regards
There is nothing, so far, like Telegram.
Telegram? ... what there is nothing, so far, is like Signal.
You are right, the only problem with Telegram is the low penetration among the majority of users, who refuse to leave WhatsApp. I uninstalled it because none of my contacts had this application on their device
Rambox can also use WhatsApp, only it also allows other tools to be used at the same time, such as Telegram, Twitter, Facebook Messenger, GMail and others.
look at everything is bad use it from cell phone (it's humor)
