wattOS a great lightweight Ubuntu based distro

watts

Today we bring you this article about the GNU / Linux distribution called watts. It is a simple, light and fast distro that you can install on your computers with few hardware resources or on older ones. To make this possible, Ubuntu 16.04.01 LTS has been used as a base and a default LXDE desktop environment has been added to avoid consuming too many resources to move the graphics. It also uses the lightweight Openbox window manager.

The developers of this distro have been developing it for years and improving version by version, pampering some details so that it does not consume too many resources and is efficient at the consumption level. The requirements you need are not high, with a few 128MB of RAM they are enough to make it work, although it is recommended to have between 192 and 256MB for a more fluid operation.

If you have a computer in which you had installed the already lacking support Windows XP from Microsoft, it might be a good idea to replace it with wattOS, it will certainly work well on computers that are even ten years old or older. Its optimization and minimalism make this possible without giving up the power of a traditional Linux distribution, with a lot of software packages to do any task you can imagine without restrictions with respect to the more "gluttonous" distros.

If you don't like wattOS, you already know that we have talked many times in this blog about the various alternatives of light distros that exist. There are many and for all tastes. If you decide on this one, you can consult its web page for more information on the latest releases, documentation and of course the download area to get hold of it. At the day of writing this article, the R10 version is available that you can download in both 32 and 64 bit versions, selecting between BitTorrent or direct download.

Very good article! I can't wait to try it, I have a couple of dinosaurs lying around that I could revive. Greetings from Argentina.
