There are several applications like WallpaperDownloade, such is the case of variety, but today we are going to talk about another wallpaper manager.

WallpaperDownloader, This is a graphical Java-based application for downloading, managing and setting wallpapers from the internet. This application is open source (GPL3) and completely free. It is compatible with GNU / Linux, OS X and Windows.

It has all the functions of a wallpaper manager, from downloading, saving and switching to space management. Works on Mate, GNOME Shell, Unity, XFCE, and KDE Plasma 5.0 and higher.

It has a fairly intuitive user interface with controls that allow you to download wallpapers based on preferred screen resolutions, keywords, image size, and image providers.

How to install WallpaperChanger on Linux?

If they are Ubuntu users or any system derived from it, we can install the application from a repository with the following command:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:eloy-garcia-pca/wallpaperdownloader

Done this now we must update our list of repositories and applications with:

sudo apt-get update

And finally we can install the application with the following command:

sudo apt install wallpaperdownloader

In Arch Linux and its derivatives, it is available in AUR. Therefore, you can install it using an AUR wizard, for example in this command we make use of yay:

 yay -S wallpaperdownloader

For the rest of the Linux distributions to be able to obtain this application is with the help of the Snap packages, so we must have the support of this in our system.

Already sure that we can install applications of this type, it is enough to execute the following command to obtain WallpaperDownloader in our system:

sudo snap install wallpaperdownloader

And ready.

We can also use the application's jar package, for this we must download it with:

Once the package has been downloaded, we can execute it with the following command:

java -Dsun.java2d.xrender=f -Xmx256m -Xms128m -jar wallpaperdownloader.jar

Using WallpaperChanger on Linux

Once installed, we proceed to execute it by searching for the application launcher in our application menu or from the jar package with the aforementioned command.

Once this is done, we will be inside the program's interface, which you can see similar to this:

As you can see from the above screenshot, WallpaperDownloader can get your favorite wallpapers from different sources (Wallhaven.cc, Devianart, Bing, etc.).

In the application, just choose your preferred provider and press the "Apply" button to download the wallpapers. Also, you can choose the resolution of the wallpapers before downloading them.

In the Application Settings section, you can set different parameters, such as

  • Download wallpapers every X minutes.
  • Maximum size for your download directory.
  • Change the wallpaper every X minutes.
  • Set the location of the wallpaper changer.

Now in the part of the "Download directory" it is possible to define the location of your preferred download location to keep the wallpapers.

While in the Wallpapers section, you can manage all the downloaded images and also preview the selected wallpaper, remove the wallpaper, set the selected image as your desktop wallpaper, etc.

Basically all you have to do is fill in your screen resolution, select the wallpaper providers and enter the keywords for wallpapers and WallpaperDownloader takes care of the rest.

Once you have made all the changes, click the Apply button.
